Sweet Home Hotel is housed in a listed building constructed 110 years ago. It used to be one of the mansions in the picturesque neighborhood of Plaka. In the past, part of the building was used as a law office, tavern and tailor shop. I has been operating as a hotel for last 25 years. The hotel was fully reconstructed and renovated in 2012. “As we are greatly fond of neoclassical buildings and vintage items, my father and I, fell in love with the building at forst sight. It was the aura, the energy of the past” said Mrs. Armata, managing director and owner of Sweet Home Hotel.
Many elements revealing the building’s age not only remain, they are also highlighted in the best possible way. It is like time has stopped back in 1910: The iconic marble and wood staircase, the solid iron door, the high-ceiling rooms featuring elegant plaster details, the wooden floors and cast iron radiators constitute valuable heritage that the owners have utterly respected. The effort to revive this elegant era is more than obvious everywhere.
The main entrance doors were selected after a long search in order to harmoniously coexist with the original atmosphere and design of the mansion. The chandeliers in the hotel’s entrance and on the 4th floor are exact copies of antiques from this period. Finally the private gramophone collection of Mr. Armatas in the Hotel’s basement is the icing on the cake of our Sweet Home.
